How do I add LinkedIn to Claude?

Claude cannot reach LinkedIn on its own. You add a connector (a small bridge that gives Claude a set of extra abilities — in this case, writing and publishing LinkedIn posts). Kalovio is that bridge. It is a hosted MCP server (Model Context Protocol — the open standard Claude uses to talk to outside tools), so there is nothing to install, download or run on your computer.

Here are the steps, exactly as the screens appear.

Step 1 — Open Claude’s settings

Go to claude.ai and sign in. Click your name or profile picture in the bottom-left corner, then click Settings. On the desktop app it is the same menu.

Step 2 — Open Connectors

In the settings sidebar, click Connectors. You will see a list of connectors Claude already offers, and near the top or bottom of that list a button that says Add custom connector. Click it.

Step 3 — Fill in two boxes

A small dialog opens with two fields:

• Name — type Kalovio. This is only a label for you, so any name works, but Kalovio is what the rest of this guide calls it.
• Remote MCP server URL — paste https://kalovio.com/mcp

Check the address carefully. It ends in /mcp, with no trailing slash and no extra characters. A pasted space at the end is the single most common reason this step fails.

Step 4 — Click Add

Claude adds Kalovio to your connector list. At this point it is listed but not yet connected — it does not know who you are on LinkedIn yet.

Step 5 — Click Connect

Find Kalovio in the list and click Connect. A browser window or tab opens.

Step 6 — Sign in with LinkedIn

You land on a Kalovio page with a single button: Sign in with LinkedIn. Click it and you are sent to linkedin.com — LinkedIn’s own page, on LinkedIn’s own domain. Check the address bar; that is the safety test. You are never asked for your LinkedIn password by Kalovio, and never asked to paste a cookie.

LinkedIn shows you what you are granting and asks you to allow it. Click Allow.

Step 7 — Done

You are redirected back with a confirmation, and Kalovio shows as connected in Claude. Close the tab and go back to your chat.

Total time, if the copy-paste behaves: under two minutes.

Do I need a paid Claude plan?

No. Custom connectors work on Claude’s free plan. Kalovio itself is free too — it is in open beta, with no card required. Pricing may change later, and if it does, that will be said plainly rather than sprung on you.

One difference worth knowing if you also use ChatGPT: over there, custom connectors need Developer Mode, which is only on the paid plans and only on the web version. Claude has no such gate. If you are choosing where to set this up first, Claude is the shorter path.

What should I try first?

Open a new chat and type one of these, word for word. They are ordinary sentences — there are no commands to memorise.

• “Check my LinkedIn connection.” — the safest first move. Claude reports which LinkedIn account is linked and when the connection expires. If this works, everything else will.
• “Write me a LinkedIn post about what I learned shipping my first product, and show me a preview before posting.”
• “Schedule a post for Tuesday at 9am about hiring mistakes.”
• “Save this as a draft, I will finish it later.”
• “Give me my upload link so I can add an image.” — Claude cannot pass an image you attach in chat through to a connector, so images go through an upload panel or link instead. Once uploaded, say “publish my post with that image”.

Nothing publishes without a second yes. Ask for a post and Claude shows you the exact text first, along with a signed preview. It only goes live when you confirm. The same two-step gate covers scheduling and deleting. That is deliberate: it means a stray instruction hidden in a web page or document that Claude happens to read cannot quietly post to your profile.

What if it does not work?

The connector does not appear, or Add does nothing

Almost always the URL. Re-paste https://kalovio.com/mcp into a plain text box first to strip hidden formatting, check there is no space at either end, and confirm it starts with https. If “Add custom connector” is missing entirely, refresh the settings page — and if you are on a work or school Claude account, an administrator may have turned custom connectors off. That is an account policy, not a fault you can fix from your side.

The sign-in loops, or sends me back without connecting

Two usual causes. First, a browser blocking third-party cookies or pop-ups on the LinkedIn consent screen — try a normal window rather than a private one, and allow the pop-up. Second, being signed in to more than one LinkedIn account in the same browser; LinkedIn sometimes hands the approval to the wrong one. Sign out of LinkedIn, then start the Connect step again and sign in with the account you actually want to post from.

It worked before, and now says the connection expired

Expected, and not a bug. LinkedIn member access tokens last about 60 days, and self-serve apps like Kalovio are not given a refresh token — so the connection genuinely ends and has to be renewed by you. Just type “reconnect my LinkedIn” in the chat. Claude hands you a link, you approve on LinkedIn once more, and you are back. Any tool promising permanent, never-expiring access is either scraping or mistaken.

Claude says it cannot see my old posts

It cannot, and neither can any tool built on LinkedIn’s self-serve API. The permission that would allow reading your existing posts (r_member_social) is closed to apps like this. Kalovio can only see and manage posts it published itself. Your back catalogue stays invisible to it.

What it can and cannot do, plainly

Once connected, you can publish immediately or schedule for any time, keep a weekly posting queue, save drafts, attach one image, a swipeable set of two to nine images, or a PDF carousel, tag company pages, set a voice profile so posts sound like you, track clicks on links, and delete a post it published.

It cannot send direct messages, send connection requests, scrape leads, or show you real LinkedIn engagement numbers like impressions and follower growth — those need LinkedIn’s partner-gated Community Management API, which needs a registered company and an app review. Kalovio tracks link clicks only, which is a different and smaller thing. Multi-image and PDF posts ride LinkedIn’s newer versioned interface, which may not be switched on for every self-serve app; if it is not, you get a clear message rather than a silent failure.

That is the honest shape of it. Paste one URL, approve on LinkedIn, and start writing.
